<DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>This data set provides information about wells in the State of Missouri. The parent data set is the Wellhead Information Management System (WIMS) database that is maintained by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Missouri Geological Survey (MGS), Geological Survey Program (GSP), Well Installation Section. The WIMS database resulted from implementation of the Water Well Drillers Law of 1985. The information about well location, well ownership, well completion date, well construction, well yield, static water level, and borehole stratigraphy was provided by well drillers as required by state statute RSMo 256.600-256.640. Wells drilled prior to July of 1987 are not included in this data set. A WIMS Well Search is also available online at https://apps5.mo.gov/wims2/menu/customQueryPub.action</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>

This data set does not contain all of the well records included in the WIMS database. See Process Steps for queries performed that resulted in final data set.
The horizontal positional accuracy of well locations is contingent on the accuracy with which well drillers report the well locations to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
Well elevation values in the ELEV attribute are reported by well drillers. The accuracy of the data is unknown and will vary by method and reporter.
Tables from the WIMS database were exported to Access. Queries were used to remove records with REC_TYPE of Pump, as well as those missing Latitude/Longitude coordinates. The remaining records were plotted in ArcMap using Latitude/Longitude values, then projected to North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83) Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Zone 15 North. Locational data was checked through a series of spatial joins and queries. Records whose locational data (Township, Range, and/or Section values) needs further checking were removed.
