        <idPurp>This layer was originally developed for use in the MoDNR-funded Vulnerability Assessment (VA) of Missouri Public Drinking Water to Chemical Contamination Project at CARES. The VA project was implemented in 1991 by MoDNR. MoDNR contracted with CARES to conduct this assessment. The project is designed to determine which, if any, public water supplies are threatened by any chemicals being tested under the Safe Drinking Water Act.</idPurp>

A radius was calculated around each PWS well using the cylindrical displacement method, R20yr = 149.6 *sqrt[20Q/nH] where Q= the average well production rate in gallons per minute (gpm) based on reported or estimated yearly total production, n= aquifer effective porosity, and H= saturated thickness of the aquifer (the total depth of the well minus the depth to the static water level). 2. Using the location of the well a point file was created. 3. Using a modified version of the buffer wizard a buffer was drawn based on the R20yr value. 4. Wells that had a zero radius for an R20yr were removed from the shapefile. 5. Using the unique ID field as a link, additional attributes were added to the table.</stepDesc>
